My name is Brianna Orams, and I basically grew up on the ocean. Whether it was living next to the beach or onboard a 40ft Catamaran the ocean has been my backyard for as long as I can remember.
After taking the female SUP junior title for the technical race in Qingdao China 2019, I decided to follow my dream to compete in Stand Up Paddleboarding. Since I was 12 years old I have been a rider for Starboard NZ, and am honored to now be part of the dream team. In early 2020, I had the opportunity to spend some time with the eco team at Starboard HQ, which further developed my passion for sport and the environment.
In 2019, I started studying environmental science at the University of Sunshine Coast Australia whilst living on board a yacht. I have been fortunate enough to offshore sail, paddle or adventure to places an average tourist wouldn’t normally go. Whether its remote coastlines that have no footprints but mounds of plastic or sea turtles washed ashore from ingesting our plastic. I can’t help but feel a sense of responsibility. Climate change and all things marine science are huge passions of mine so the idea arose to develop the Blue Carbon Project.
