Planet Earth needs our help RIGHT NOW! To ensure a liveable future for all.
At Starboard & SOMWR we measure our carbon footprints annually, and we are working on ways to reduce what we emit. As part of this is we are working with the Science-Based Targets Initiative and committing to consistently being Net-Zero for as long as the company exists.
What is Net Zero?
To become net-zero, the number of greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere must be balanced by sequestrating the same amount from the atmosphere. You can learn more about the sequestration process here. Starboard and SOMWR already plant enough mangroves to absorb emissions 10X over. Meaning we are already Net-Zero and will continue to keep things this way so for the lifetime of the company.
What areas do we include in our scopes?
- Scope 1 – Company Car Travel
- Scope 2 – Electricity use at Starboard HQ
- Scope 3 – Raw Materials, Production, Business Travel, Employee Commutes
What is our Near Term Target?
Not only are Starboard & SOMWR already committed to being Net-Zero. We also commit to reducing our scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 42 % by 2030. Notably, this is from a 2020 base year. We currently measure all of our scope 1-3 emissions, and within the next few years, we need heavy focus on our reduction areas! Importantly, Starboard and SOMWR have committed to reducing in line with the 1.5-degree scenario of the Paris Agreement.
What is our Long Term Target?
Our company is already net-zero and we commit to doing this for the longevity of the company. Furthermore, we commit to reducing absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 100% by 2050 from a 2020 base year. Read how we plan to do this here.
