Industry leaders working together for a sustainable future!
Starboard and Siam Chemical Group (SCG) came together to sign a memorandum of understanding. Creating a “Collaboration for a Sustainable Future”. The leaders in the SUP and Windsurf industry will work together with Thailand’s 2nd largest company to solve global warming using the circular economy.
What is Circular Economy?
Circular Economy is an economic process that aims to eliminates waste. It works by feeding the end of life product back into the the cycle to allow for the continual use of resources.
The Signing Ceremony
In October 2019, the Norwegian Ambassador Mrs. Kjersti Rodsmoen kindly congratulated both companies and hosted a signing ceremony. The Vice President and Chief in Charge of Technology and Innovation at SCG, Mr. Suracha Udomsak, and Svein Rasmussen, Chief Innovator at Starboard came together to sign the MOU. The companies will be adopting the circular economy concept to solve global environmental issues such as global warming and climate change.
The scope of the partnership between the two companies covers three key initiatives:
- To co-develop and find replacing virgin plastic materials with the best in class recycled plastic solutions. Once found these will be used in Starboard products.
- To work together to reduce SCG’s carbon footprint through the planting of Mangrove trees.
- Joining together to launch the Ambassadors For The Planet Program in Thailand.
A quote from Mr Suracha Udomsak:
“To solve environmental issues, especially global warming and climate change everyone’s cooperation is needed. Both SCG and Starboard realize the enormity of such issues and shared the goal to restore sustainability in the environment. This commitment has led to the partnership to apply a circular economy to solve the problem.
This partnership brings together both businesses to develop new materials whilst also studying their environmental impacts. Furthermore, the collaboration will work on bringing social and environmental efforts such as mangrove reforestation to reduce carbon dioxide impacts and instilling knowledge about environmental protection to children.
We truly believe that our combined capabilities, knowledge base and expertise can bring positive change. Therefore, solving global environmental issues and preserve natural resources for generations to come.”
A quote from Svein Rasmussen:
“Forming partnerships for sustainable business growth is our goal.
Starboard collaborates with national and international partners to protect the environment. Through many initiatives, including voluntary trash collection through the running of Trash Hero Bangkok, and mangrove reforestation to absorb carbon dioxide with Worldview International Foundation in Myanmar. Right now, we are exploring business initiatives with Chemicals Business, SCG to research and develop environmentally-friendly polymer materials to use in Starboard’s products.
An important aspect of the new partnership is to educate youngsters through our ‘Ambassadors for the Planet’ program. Furthermore helping to mold children into becoming advocates for environmental protection. We believe that with our strengths combined, we will achieve our goal under the three directions we have set and will be able to amplify the success on a global level.”
This collaboration is a significant milestone in driving the circular economy forward. The aim is to help the planet as a whole. Reducing our negative contributions that are hindering the atmosphere of the planet and adding to global warming. The commitment from SCG and Starboard to develop innovations will provide solutions to create a more sustainable environment and society.
