For Starboards Junior Ocean Ambassador Mikaela, the goal of FB (Fernandina Beach) Goes Green club is simple. Be an eco-friendly club making a change to our environment by spreading the message about our planet’s health. The club is run by kids, for kids. It is a place where they can be a voice in the community, highlighting the importance of being environmentally responsible.
Mikaela wanted her club to lead by action so she contacted the local Keep Nassau Beautiful organisation about their Adopt-A-Road program. Mikaela felt that keeping a particular stretch of the road clean was a great way to give back to the community. Working with Keep Nassau Beautiful, FB Goes Green was able to Adopt-A-Road. And now, the kids at FB Goes Green have committed to keeping their roads clean for at least the next two years.
Well, what better way to influence but also lead by example? Nowadays FB Goes Green leadership is on full display along the side of a mile-long stretch of road in Nassau County, FL. At any given time you may see Mikaela and her peers cleaning this road of all trash. Keeping it beautiful and green for the community. This display of environmental action is something that the club and its members can be incredibly proud of.
FB Goes Green is the first youth organisation that has adopted a road under the ‘Keep Nassau Beautiful’ program. They hope that this inspires other youth organisations to follow suit.
In The Words Of Keep Nassau Beautiful:
“These incredible young women are some of faces of local group FB goes Green. They are a club giving back to our community, our oceans and our future. They have adopted Tarpon Ave on the north end of Amelia Island. This road is connected to their local Fernandina Beach Skate Park and is in close proximity to a very popular convenient store. They reached out to Keep Nassau Beautiful asking how they could help and we couldn’t be more excited to have them as an FDOT Northwest Florida adopt partner and to watch them grow into the future stewards of Fernandina Beach, Florida.”
