Coming together to share and solve.
November bought together many individuals, companies, and organizations at the Bangkok United Nations Centre to highlight how they’re limiting their impact. The SEA of Solutions event aims to inspire the need for change because we need to work towards solving plastic pollution at the source.
SEA Of Solutions welcomed Starboard to showcase how we run the company in terms of sustainability. Throughout the event, it was clear to see how we are all connected with nature. Starboard’s board is an immediate attractor to bring people to the stand. The reactions from our display ranged from curiousness to admiration. Because Starboard identifies areas where we are making plastic products and are contributing to carbon dioxide emissions. Then, in contrast, we have already implemented programs to lessen and leave less of an impact on the planet.
Synchronicity
Ted style talks shared information on research projects that have been focused within Thailand. Moreover, Starboard partners Eco BEASTS, Environmental Justice Foundation, Grin Green / WeSwear, and even our supplier Waste to Wear were exhibiting or sharing a short talk about their projects.
Waste To Wear
This amazing team is a Starboard supplier for the ultra-durable fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. Our board bags, cutlery set bags, Starboard flags are made from this material, and it is good! Waste To Wear hosted their talk at the event about how they use BlockChain to show how responsible they are by being super transparent. This is their way to solve plastic pollution at the source. Furthermore, their hope is for businesses to follow suit and take responsibility for what they are putting out to the world. Thanks to blockchain a customer can see exactly where the materials of their product are coming from, how it is processed, and moreover how much difference is being made in comparison to an unsustainable practice. Right now they are working on their ocean fabric program. Using plastics found in the ocean to create garments such as swimwear and outdoor wear.
Illegal Waste Trafficking
Since China banned the importation of plastic waste in 2018 many countries in the Southeast Asian region are feeling the strain and either following suit or having an influx of illegal waste coming onto land from shipping containers that are traveling overseas. Moreover, this is seen as a criminal activity and treated as a serious crime in Thailand. The way to solving plastic pollution at the source is for each country to deal with its rubbish issues.
Circular Economy And Solving Plastic Pollution At The Source
Right now our economy is only 9% circular. The linear economy is what has to lead us into this plastic pollution crisis. We still have a long way to go to become a fully circular economy. If we eliminate the linear economy and shift all the way through to circular economy we can really start to help the planet. Therefore, allowing our planet to heal itself.
