Starboard is proud to release its 2024 Carbon Footprint Report, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and sustainability. This report details our environmental impact, highlights key areas of progress, and outlines the steps we are taking to further reduce emissions across our operations and supply chain.
Building on these milestones, we remain dedicated to transparency and accountability. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to announce the release of our 2024 Carbon Footprint Report.
Our Report
Every year, since 2017, we publish our carbon footprint report to provide an accurate account of Starboard’s CO2 emissions. Every year, we continue to reassess and improve our methodology to ensure we are reporting accurately and clearly. 2023 was the first year we aligned our Carbon Footprint with the GHG Protocol and we have continued to follow this globally recognized methodology for 2024.
Additionally, you will find direct comparisons for the production emissions of some of our favourite products. This way, we hope that you can get a better understanding of the impact of our boards, beyond just their fun on the water.
Why do we calculate our carbon footprint?
The purpose of our report is to highlight and be transparent about Starboard’s CO2e emissions and our impact on the planet. We understand that measuring our environmental impact is the first step towards identifying areas for improvement and implementing positive change.
By measuring our footprint, we gain insight into our operations, allowing us to identify areas for improvement and drive positive changes within our supply chain to reduce emissions.
What is new this year?
This is the second year we are following the GHG protocol reporting guidelines. This consistency in reporting means that any changes in absolute emissions and carbon intensity (KGC02e per EUR revenue) will be evident and provide an accurate representation of how our emissions have changed over the past year.
What is the GHG protocol?
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol was established in 1990 and it provides standards, guidance, tools and training for business and government to measure and manage climate-warming emissions. It arose from the need to standardise industrial approaches to carbon accounting and, today, it represents a ‘gold standard’ for footprint reporting.
Our goals for 2025
Looking ahead, we’re hoping to continue progressing the accuracy and usefulness of our report. Empowered with better accounting, we can further identify areas for emission reduction and decrease our footprint total as we work towards our net-zero targets.
Although we have made changes this year, we still know we can do better. If you have any feedback, recommendations or questions, please contact eco@star-board.com
