The Plastic Offset Program team are having a very exciting month. Going beyond our 100,000 KG POP target 2 months ahead, collecting an additional 10 tonnes of POP waste for Earth Month! Whilst also being joined by a special guest.
The Special Guest, Miss Earth Fire
Miss Earth Fire 2021 Baitong Jareerat Petsom from Thailand joined the POP program with her friends for one day. The team joined the POP crews at the Starboard Test Centre and at Amara’s Watersports in Pattaya.
300 KG of plastic waste was removed from the shorelines. Moreover, a lot of this waste was tangled up in fishing nets, ropes and single-use plastics found on the shoreline. Furthermore, the team were enjoying their SUP clean up as they were able to collect waste from within the mangroves.
Quote from Baitong:
I joined especially for Earth Day. This day is special for the Earth. I think Earth Day is not important to let us know how much of the Earth needs to be taken care of but it reminds us that humanity is not living on Earth alone. Therefore, to cooperate working together to help maintain cleanliness. [We need to] Start simply by loving the world… Do what we can do and continue doing what you are comfortable doing in your own way.
100,000 KG POP Target surpassed this Earth Month!
Bringing the focus back to our Plastic Offset Program Team, who collect 1.1 kg of plastic for every board sold. For Earth Day this year, our POP team want to take the challenge to clean up the shorelines. Notably, in April our team set the target to collect an additional 10,000 KG of plastic trash from the beaches in the Chonburi area. The team’s efforts take them straight up to their target POP goal of 100,000 KG for the year and surpass the target two months ahead of schedule. Top efforts go to the Thailand team for cleaning up the shorelines.
Moreover, our POP team collect 11 tonnes on average per month. So this additional 10 tonnes for Earth Month is a big step up!
We don’t want to see more and more plastic waste in the ocean. Importantly, the big target of 10 tonnes is reflective of what is achievable. On the other hand, humans generate this waste humans, we humans are creating this negative effect, and polluting our waterways and nature.
We raise awareness today.
All of us can influence positive change today.
Each of us can take action today.
