Our Chief innovator, Svein Rasmussen, shared some tough truths about plastic pollution in the ocean and in our lives with the members of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand — and encourage them to take the lead in the industry change.
Last week Starboard was invited to give a talk at the monthly meeting of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand to share how are we facing the future of the company and the planet.

Being a formal meeting between the presidents and representatives of all the different countries’ Chambers of Commerce in Thailand we were glad to present our environmental initiatives and share how also others can do it.
“While we keep improving on reducing the environmental impact of our boards it is also on our agenda to reduce and offset our carbon and plastic footprint. And we are actively doing this with the Carbon Net Positive project and the Plastic Offset Program.”
Surrounded by top business leaders and the people that drive a big part of Thailand’s economy was the perfect opportunity to present the reality of the growing environmental crisis, how this is affecting to all of us, and how companies are directly contributing to the problem.
“Do governments produce plastic? Do waste managers produce trash? Commerce produce plastic trash and is ultimately responsible.”
Asking for awakeness Svein pointed Starboard and the other businesses involved in commerce as the main polluters and then asked to take responsibility and action.
“Melati and Isabel, 16 and 14 years old, from BBPB (Bye Bye Plastic Bags) initiated banning plastic bags in Bali from 2018 – What can we JFCCT do?”
Encouraging others to join us and pioneer the change to a more sustainable way to do business.

- Start with the office. No single-use plastics allowed at work.
- Motivate and encourage your employees to be part of the movement.
- Calculate your carbon emissions and plastic use, then reduce it.
- Reinvent your business to reduce the overall waste and the dependence on primary materials and energy.
- Start seeing the economic and social benefits.
It’s no longer good enough to be the best in the world, let’s be the best for the world!
