Head of the Dart is the largest SUP challenge in the UK, attracting hundreds of participants every year.
With the help of Starboard Blue, they have taken action to measure and offset the emissions from their athlete travel and joined the 10X climate positive movement.
Measurement and reporting
In 2019 and 2023, Starboard Blue helped the Head of the Dart organisers to collect information from every competitor, on their distance and type of transport to the event. Using this data, they calculated the carbon emissions from athlete travel, to understand the impact of the events.
Action Taken
10X Climate Positive
In 2019, the Head of the Dart planted 13 VCS certified mangroves to absorb the travel emissions from 260 competitors. In 2023, the action was taken further by making the event 10X climate-positive through planting 474 mangroves to counterbalance the emissions for athlete travel 10 times over.
