Partners for the Ocean
IF WE’RE GOING TO SAVE THIS PLANET, WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER.
Sure, one person can make an impact but working together can change the world!
Starboard collaborates with partners who are doing good for our earth and oceans.
The vision of bringing public education, by new effective methods and technologies, to the disadvantaged was worth the efforts of nearly 40 years of pioneering activities in 26 countries.
Today, we live in a global village. It is threatened by climate change. Our vision and commitment to this challenge will determine living conditions for our children, grandchildren and future generations. This is the most fundamental challenge in human history. We have to act quickly with effective solutions. Restoring lost mangrove forests is a practical, meaningful contribution to strengthening nature’s own methods for balancing the climate, tested over thousands of years. Planting miracle mangrove trees is more than a vision, it is a celebration for life on earth. Believing in a livable future is more than a dream, it is a commitment to our global village.
Dr. Arne Fjørtoft
The mangrove forest in its 1800 acres was destroyed due to charcoal burning and prawn farming when Pathein University requested World International Foundation for help to restore its biodiversity.
In this region of Myanmar, only 16% of the original mangrove forest is left. Today the park area is brought back to its original health with 3.4 million trees (newly planted and rescued). 2.3 million tons of CO2 has been documented in the ground to be preserved with new plants on the surface. It is estimated that the total mitigation and protection of stored carbon amounts to over 4 million tons of CO2 during 20 years of growth period.
For every board sold, Starboard plants a mangrove in Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park that, over 20 years, will sequester 1 ton of carbon. For more information about Starboard’s carbon neutral strategy, click here.

PARLEY is the platform where creators, thinkers and leaders come together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of our oceans and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction. Parley for the Oceans addresses major threats towards our oceans, the most important ecosystem of our planet.
Starboard and Parley work together to run the Parley Ocean School in the Maldives, where ocean ambassadors paddle and work together to solve ocean problems.
Parley also helped Starboard transition their apparel packaging to plastic-free, recycled paper that can be converted into a reusable shopping bag.
You can get involved by taking AIR (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign) pledge to join the movement against irresponsible use of plastic.

2) Study how to utilize plastic waste & develop products.
3) Supporting SCGs CO2 mitigation plan to reduce their carbon footprint, studying and then joining Mangrove plantation.
4) In order to change behaviour and create awareness of kids and adults, SCG will join Starboard in supporting the Ambassadors For The Planet 1 year curriculum, created by Protect Blue.

Bye Bye Plastic Bags is an Indonesia-based organization that advocates for the prohibition of single use plastic bags on the island of Bali. Teens Melati and Isabel Wijsen succeeded in passing a bag ban beginning in 2018, and now advocate for proper waste management and ocean stewardship.
Starboard travelled with the young sisters to New York, where the pair presented their story to the United Nation. Together with team rider, Sean Poynter, Starboard also visited Melati and Isabel in Bali, testing out some of eco-product on the water.
Starboard supports BBPB’s educational and environmental efforts an encourages people around Southeast Asia – and the world to change their single use plastic habits.

The SUPKids program is designed to teach kids SUP, water safety & environmental education. Their vision is to create experiences for our SUPKids that will enhance their appreciation, respect & understanding for sustainable living.
SUPkids uses games, drills & SUP activities to ensure that the kids walk away with vital water safety skills that will stay with them for life. They have taken environmental education out of the classroom, to the great outdoors, where we think it belongs.
Both SUPKids and Starboard believe that when kids fall in love with an outdoor sport, they fall in love with the outdoors. And kids who love their planet become ambassadors for taking care of it.
Starboard support SUPKids’s mission to bring the joy of stand up paddling to the next generation of eco-warriors.

The Trash Hero mission is to create sustainable, community-based projects that remove existing waste, and reduce future waste by inspiring long-term behavioral change. They do this through:
Action and Awareness. They pick up trash. Whether a cigarette butt on the road, or 20,000 kilos from island beaches – if they see it, they clean it!
Education. They back up hands-on experience with educational information about the impact that trash has on the global environment.
Sustainable Projects. They create long-term projects that bring communities together to remove and better manage their waste, and strategies that reduce the amount of waste being produced in the future.
Inspiration. They motivate people to become Trash Heroes in their everyday lives.
Starboard partly runs the Bangkok chapter of Trash Hero, leading waterway cleanups on SUPs around Bangkok and educating local students about how to care for the environment.

With Sarah, the mother as a cartoonist, Carlos the father as a machine builder and boat captain, Sydney and Indi the younger monkeys go around delivering plastic education and workshops to children and adults around the world!
The Whale Company believes in taking action to make change… Carolyn and Carlos became the first in the World to paddle 12 marathons in 12 countries in Europe on a Stand Up Paddle board made of plastic bottles to raise awareness of plastic pollution in the ocean.
They now run Bottle Boards workshops to teach schools and communities to build SUP boards out of plastic bottles. The Whale Company sells T-shirts, Whale-bags and Whale-treads to raise funds to support the Bottle Boards project and it donates 10p per sale to WDC.
The Whale Company works closely with Starboard at our headquarters in Bangkok to show our local environmental advocates how to build plastic bottle SUPs! They have also helped Starboard’s friends at Trash Hero and Lykke build boards around Thailand and educate communities about single use plastic, recycling, and reducing waste.

Innovating the textile industry to use recycled plastics, transforming them into fabrics that Starboard use for all of our board bags. For each meter of fabric, at least 10 bottles are recovered and used to make the recycled polyester material.
Waste2Wear uses blockchain technology to show evidence that their fabrics are truly made from plastic waste.
This perfect alignment of partnership has continued to grow over the years. The aim to reduce strain on our delicate planet is being worked towards. Starboard are proud to support an successful way of developing fabrics using waste materials.
