The aim of start-up company WILDPLASTIC is to free the world from plastic waste. Specifically by allowing collected materials (like those collected by our POP team) to re-enter the production cycle. WILDPLASTIC turns these collected materials (“wild plastics”) into trash bags and other functional products . Wild plastic refers to any plastic collected from the environment. So this includes plastic collected from streets, illegal landfills, dumpsites and/or shorelines.

Returning Wild Plastic to the Production Cycle

To return wild plastic to the production cycle, the start-up collaborates with international collection partners in countries with insufficient waste management infrastructures. Their aim is to jointly set up supply chains that incentivize the collection of plastic from the environment and that respect waste pickers for their substantial work through above market compensation and a reliable cooperation.

Currently, their focus is on sourcing Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) such as water sachets, bubble wrap or food packaging. LDPE cannot yet be widely recycled, so the market collection incentive for it is still limited. WILDPLASTIC wants to change this by creating a demand for this material and showcasing the potential of post-consumer LDPE recycling.

After collection, WILDPLASTIC transport the LDPE to a recycling partner who wash, melt and process it into granules. These granules are then forwarded to the production partner and used as a substitute for virgin LDPE material. WILDPLASTC’s then use this material to make new products, such as WILDBAGs.

The WILDPLASTIC Journey – From the Collection of Wild Plastic to the Distribution of WILDBAGs

Together with diverse partners throughout the supply chain, WILDPLASTIC already returned nearly 35.000kg of wild plastic into the production cycle. Turning plastics collected in Haiti, India and Nigeria into new, functional products. To further increase their impact WILDPLASTIC is continuously scouting for new collection partners that are struggling to find recycling solutions for the plastic they collect and want to cooperate.
