NYPA PALM / ECO SYRUP
Nypa is a palm tree that lives in the same environment as the Mangrove trees. Nypa’s sap is 50% sweeter than the sap of sugar cane, containing healthy inverted sugar, high content of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and other health benefits.
An improved version of the production facility with vacuum cookers fueled by green bioenergy is about to be launched as a co-operative project in the 10 villages, with a small production unit in each village. This is the first step towards utilizing the large potential in livelihood creation for poor communities as an alternative to income from mangrove destruction.
ORCHID AND BEE HONEY
Placement of orchids is an opportunity in sustainable use of mangrove forests, benefitting from tissue culture plant material to local communities. This in addition to bee honey production in mangrove forests (Australia‘s best bee honey comes from mangrove forests) are ideal income generation activities.
The water around Mangroves is rich in biodiversity and therefore very rich in marine life that caters to more sustainable fishing industry.
